PlantDNA Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 June 2026

PlantDNA ("we", "us") is a plant identification app that helps you identify plants and learn whether they may be harmful to pets or children. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and your rights.

No account required

PlantDNA does not require you to create an account, and we do not collect your name, email address, or any other directly identifying information.

Photos you take

When you scan a plant, the photo(s) you take or select are sent securely to our identification service so the plant can be identified. These photos are processed in memory only — we do not store your photos on our servers, before or after identification.

Your photo(s) are shared with a third-party plant identification service solely to identify the plant species. We may also use AI-based services to help generate general plant care and safety information — these services do not receive your photos or any personal data.

Saved scan history (your past photos and results) is stored only on your own device and is never uploaded to our servers.

Anonymous device identifier

The app generates a random identifier that is stored on your device and sent with each identification request. This identifier is not linked to your name, email, or any other personal information. We use it to:

We retain this identifier and associated usage counts (e.g. "3 scans used today", "20 credits remaining") on our servers for as long as needed to provide the service.

In-app purchases

If you purchase additional scan credits, the purchase is processed by Apple's App Store (or Google Play) and by RevenueCat, which we use to validate purchases. We do not receive or store your payment details.

What we don't do

Your rights

Because PlantDNA doesn't use accounts, the most relevant control is the data stored on your own device. You can clear your local scan history at any time from within the app's settings. If you'd like us to delete the usage/credit record associated with a specific device identifier from our servers, you can contact us using the details below and we will action this within a reasonable time.

If you are in the UK or EU, you have rights under GDPR / UK GDPR including the right to access, correct, or erase your data, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Children's privacy

PlantDNA is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The toxicity information in the app is provided for general awareness only and is not a substitute for professional medical, veterinary, or poison control advice — if a child or pet has eaten part of a plant, contact a doctor, vet, NHS 111, or Poison Control immediately.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
